Following the spate of defections from the opposition People’s Democractic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi state to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), a member of the PDP in the state, Engr. Chinedum Elekwachi has said the party is still intact and party to reckon with.
Engr. Elekwachi, who is the acting Chairman of the party in Ohaozara LGA of the State while responding to enquiries from our Correspondent on the recent defections of some bigwigs from the party to the APC, explained that the party is loosing no sleep describing the defectors as those yet to reconcile with their loss in getting the nomination ticket of the party during the 2023 general election.
According to him, the recently conducted Bye election in Ebonyi south is a testament that the PDP remains a party to reckon with in the state, stressing that the party’s candidate in the election, Barr. Silas Onu, was coasting to victory if not the machinations of the state government in connection with INEC that thwarted the process.
He explained that original votes of the Bye election showed that PDP did fine and still resonates with the people, saying that those who have chosen to defect bears no significance in the party.
“We did fine in the bye election judging by the real votes cast because you know what INEC announced was allegedly falsified and that tells you that PDP still resonates with the people”
“People defect for different reasons but I think those defections bear no significance on the party. As a centric political party, the PDP will soon come to salvage the people of the state, who are desperate for good governance”, Elekwachi remarked.
