Ahead of the planned Nigeria’s protest on Thursday over recent economic policies, the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society has urged all protest organizers to articulate clear objectives and demands for the government to address.
The society in a statement signed by the National Imam, Fuad Adeyemi Ridwan, says it recognizes the right of Nigerians to peaceful protest and the importance of voicing concerns over pressing issues such as hunger, insecurity, and governance.
The statement, however, says that Al-Habibiyyah emphasizes the need for a constructive approach that promotes dialogue and leads to tangible outcomes.
“While we understand the frustration and hardship many Nigerians are facing, we believe that protests should have clear objectives and demands to ensure that the government can respond effectively”.
Fuad continued, “Vague or unfocused protests risk leading to chaos and may not result in meaningful change. We call on all organizers to engage in constructive dialogue and present specific, actionable demands to the government”.
Imam Fuad noted that, “the society advocates for open communication between protest leaders and government officials to foster understanding and collaboration, while calling on the government to broaden communication lines with the organisers of the protesters”.
“Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society believes that through clear objectives, specific demands, and constructive dialogue, Nigeria can address its challenges more effectively and work towards a stable and prosperous future for all citizens”, the statement explained.
Imam Fuad commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for the strides it had taken in reforming the economy through floating the currency to stabilise the economy and attract FDI, supporting initiatives that promote SME’s, adding that the results of the policies to improve the lives of the citizens are yet to manifest thereby calling on the government to do more in alleviating the suffering of the masses.
