As part of its commitment to give back to Community, the Royal Ambassadors Family Enlightenment Foundation, RAFEF, has offered to provide legal representation for 16 inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Imo State Command.
The Director General of RAFEF, Amb. Jonathan David Okwudiri, told newsmen in Owerri, that the gesture is part of its mission to empower individuals, families, and Communities.
“RAFEF plans to continue supporting the Nigerian Correctional Service, Imo State Command, and exploring opportunities for collaboration and support”, Okwudiri added.
He explained that the Foundation would partner with the Nigerian Correctional Service, Imo State Command to provide support for the inmates and the correctional facility.
“The objective is to establish a working relationship with the Correctional centre and to identify areas of need and provide support to the inmates and the facility”.
He added that the Foundation will provide pro bono legal services to inmates with minor offenses.
The visitation team led by Amb. Jonathan David Okwudiri, accompanied by National Officers and Imo State Executive Working Committee members met with the Deputy Controller, E. C. Eke, and also conducted an interview with some of the inmates of the Centre.
The Deputy Controller highlighted some of the challenges facing the custodian center to include decongestion and the need for legal representation for inmates with minor offenses.
A member of the team, Barr. Amb. Precious Adannaya Chukwu, who interviewed some of the inmates, identified 16 cases (13 males and 3 females) for pro bono legal services.
“RAFEF will provide legal representation in court for the identified inmates with minor offenses and will explore opportunities for supporting the Nigerian Correctional Service, Imo State Command, in addressing the challenges facing the facility”.
Our Correspondent reports that RAFEF mission by the visit is also to support those in need in the society.
