The Leadership of the Nigerian Parliamentary Israel Allies Caucus (NPIAC) pays feminization visit to His Excellency, Ambassador Shimon Ben-Shoshan, the Israeli Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, commits to building partnerships to strengthen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the State of Israel.
The Nigerian Director NPIAC, Rev. Barr. (Mrs) Sally Williams Chinebu, and Desk Officer, Sunday Chibuzo Okereke were in the delegation with the Chairman, Nigerian Parliamentary Israel Allies Caucus, Hon. (Rev.) Dr. Ossai Nicholas Ossai PhD. The Chairman and members of the delegation who were warmly received at the Israel Embassy in Nigeria on Tuesday September 8th 2020 congratulated the Honourable Ambassador on the historic peace agreement between the State of Israel and United Arab Emirates (UAE), noting that Israel is strategic to world peace and development.
The Chairman, Hon. Dr. Ossai Nicholas Ossai, further spoke on the purpose of the visit said, “We are here, to identify with the Ambassador, inform him of the establishment of the Israel Allies Parliamentary Caucus in the National Assembly of Nigeria, explore areas of strategic collaborations to promote the diplomatic bond between our both countries.” “We also used the opportunity to inform the Ambassador about the official inauguration of the Caucus scheduled for the third week of October 2020, in Abuja, Nigeria.”
The Chairman, also informed the Ambassador that the Nigerian Caucus since March, 2020, have worked vigorously to support the State of Israel through, building membership strength to push legislative interventions that will mutually benefit both countries; engaging and forming of strategic collaborations with faith based groups and policy makers to stop the spread of all forms of BDS against Israel. Others include facilitation of plans for exchange programmes and forums to promote Israel and Nigeria’s interests and expansion of the Nigerian Caucus to cover the Nigerian Senate and the State legislative Assemblies and issuing of position statement to support the interest of Israel at global level. “The Caucus stands with the State of Israel on issues of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.” he said.
The Ambassador, in his response, expressed deep appreciation to the delegation and the entire Members of the Nigerian Parliamentary Allies Caucus for identifying with the State of Israel and the Caucus’s services to advance mutually beneficial diplomatic ties between Israel and Nigeria. He added, “Israel is promoting peace around the world to promote global peace and cohesion.” On the official inauguration of the Nigerian Caucus, the Honourable Ambassador pledged to work with the leadership to make it a huge success.
The Ambassador further told the delegation that this year “would mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Israel and Nigeria,” thus called for the Nigeria to start considering moving her Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem in commemoration of the 60 years of enduring friendship and partnerships. He pledged that the embassy would continue to collaborate with the Nigerian Government and the Nigerian Parliamentary Israel Allies Caucus in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship, agriculture, health, education, security, climate change, youth/women development, and other areas of mutual interests.
The Nigerian Director NPIAC, Rev. Barr. (Mrs) Sally Williams Chinebu, who moved a vote of thanks on behalf of the delegation, thanked the Ambassador for the embassy’s warmth reception, assuring that she will use her office as Director of the Nigerian Caucus to promote mutuality of synergy between Nigeria and Israel.
