The Modibbo Adama University, MAU, Yola, has lost its Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Academics, Prof Mohammed Musa Malgwi.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur, who made the announcement on Thursday afternoon, said the VC Academics died earlier in the day.
“On behalf of the university community, we regret to announce the passing away of Professor Mohammed Musa Malgwi in the early hours of 18th May 2023, while on official duty in Abuja,” the VC said in a statement signed by the Registrar of the university, Hajiya Halima Bala.
The statement said further about the late VC Academics: “Before his demise, Prof Malgwi was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, of the university and previously served in various capacities as Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, and School of Postgraduate Studies.
“The deceased is survived by his wife, Prof Anna M. Malgwi and children.”
The statement added that the burial arrangements for Malgwi would be announced by the family in due time.
Although the statement from the university said nothing about how Mohammed Malgwi died, independent sources indicated that his death was sudden.
A source said the late lamented academics led a delegation on a thank-you visit to the prominent people who attended MAU Yola’s 27th Convocation on Saturday, May 13.
On his own, one Umar Yobe said on his Facebook page about the deceased: “Prof Mohammed Musa Malgwi is no more. This world is nothing. Just last week, he was trolling me about Arsenal’s defeat on Facebook. May your soul rest in peace.”
