The Nigerian government through the ministry of Education has presented the result of the concluded National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Federal government unity colleges across Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal ministry of Education, David Adejo Andrew, disclosed this while briefing newsmen after receiving the results from the registrar of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi in Abuja.
He noted that a total number of seventy-two thousand, eight hindered and sixty five (72,865) candidates registered for the examination.
According to him, ”A total of seventy two thousand, eight hundred and sixty five (72,865) pupils registered compared to 71,738 for 2022 with Lagos State having the highest number of 18,644 and Taraba with the lowest of 102.
With 38,801 female registrants against 34,064 males”.
”We are making progress with bridging the gender parity; Sixty nine thousand, eight hundred and twenty nine (69,829) pupils sat for the examination” he added.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the examination is highly competitive, which is administered yearly to Nigerian children, both at home and sundry, with the desire to gain admission into any of the 110 unity schools spread across all parts of the country.
He, however, applauded the body for ensuring and seeing that the conduct of the examination was hitch- free, which shows that NECO is improving.
David Andrew assured that the admission processes are concluded on time and also in line with the provided criteria of 60% merit, 30% equality of state, 10% exigency.
The body conducted the examination on Saturday, 3rd June 2023 in Nigeria, Benin Republic and Togo.
