The Fugar Progressive Union, a socio cultural group in Edo State, FPU, has invited UNESCO to grace its annual cultural Festival, which holds from December 22nd to 27th of this year.
The socio cultural group with branches all over the world, speaking through its President General, Barrister Richard Anetekhai, said UNESCO should pay a visit to witness the Fugar Cultural Festival, so as to have it listed among world heritage sites.
Barrister Richard Anetekhai explained that this year’s edition of the festival, which is the 5th is fast gaining national and global attention because of its well packaged tourist sites in Edegbake, Oghodoghodo and Ozikor Caves.
” Other events listed during the festival, include Fugar Youth Summit; Football Match; Beauty Pageant Contest, Miss Fugar Queen; Wrestling Competition, Lecture and Seminar plus Visitation to Tourist Sites”.
Already, the Chairman of the Etsako Central Local Government where Fugar is situated, Hon Solomon Obomighie, has already commenced action to give the tourist sites a facelift that is of global Standard.
Obomighie promised to make Fugar a tourism hub in Edo State in particular and Nigeria in general.
The Fugar Cultural Festival is sponsored by the socio cultural group, FPU, in collaboration with the National Council For Arts and Culture, NCAC and Etsako Central Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has just inscribed the Sango Oyo Festival in the lists of World Heritage.
The body inscribed it in the 2023 Eighteenth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee Convention For The Safeguarding Of The Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Our Correspondent reports that this development has ranked Oyo State, Nigeria, as giant amongst the countries of the World in the Tourism Industry.
The Sango Festival in Oyo Town is held in August every year and witnessed by over Two Thousand International Tourists across 167 Countries of UNESCO.
