The Adamawa State House of Assembly has elected and sworn in a new speaker, Bathiya Wesley.

The new Speaker was elected Tuesday morning and then sworn in shortly afterwards during the inaugural session of the Adamawa 8th Assembly.

Bathiya Wesley represents Hong constituency, within the same Adamawa Central Senatorial District, where the immediate past Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas hails from.

Abbas who won the election to represent the zone as a senator was being sworn in Abuja as Bathiya Wesley was officially assuming the seat of Speaker in Yola

Also sworn in at the House of Assembly Complex in Yola was the new deputy speaker, Buba Mohammed Jijiwa who represents Jada MMbulo State constituency of southern Adamawa.

Both speaker and deputy were elected unopposed.

The swearing-in of the principal officers of the Adamawa House of Assembly was conducted at the Assembly complex, Jimeta, Yola; barely an hour after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri swore in the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr Awwal Tukur and the state Head of Service, Isa Ardo, at the Government House, Dougieri, Yola.

Speaking after the SSG and Head of Service were administered the oath of allegiance by the state chief judge, Governor Fintiri said the new SSG was appointed strictly on merit.

“I have complete faith in his ability,” Fintiri said of Awwal who was Fintiri’s campaign director general in the last general election.

Fintiri urged both the new SSG and Head of Service to let their experiences and skills show in their new offices.
